Why Pilates

Since its creation in 1996, Body Control Pilates ® has become the undisputed world leader in the Pilates Method. Its’ mission is to make the benefits of Pilates accessible to everyone.

The Body Control Pilates® Method is based on the work of Joseph Pilates (1880 – 1967). Joseph Pilates originally attracted actors, dancers and athletes to his New York Studio, but today Pilates exercise has grown in accessibility and popularity. It is practiced in studios, village halls and gyms throughout the world by people of all ages and fitness levels. You no longer have to be a super flexible dancer or high performing sports person to enjoy the wide range of benefits Pilates has to offer! Pilates can be adapted to suit your own body’s needs and it can be as challenging or relaxing as you want it to be. Although still avidly practiced by dancers and sports people alike, Pilates is also ideal for first-time exercisers, those seeking rehabilitation from injury or pain and for those seeking an exercise method that relieves stress and tension.

Pilates is a body conditioning method designed to lengthen, strengthen and tone the body. It targets the deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out. It rebalances the body and corrects misalignments. In short, it reeducates us on how our bodies should move correctly, without pain or stiffness.

By targeting our deep postural muscles, Pilates enables us to regain our ‘core’ strength – the strength we need to stabilise our torsos and allow for correct posture and healthy movement of the body.

Pilates has a slow, controlled approach which gives longer term results. What you learn in a Pilates class, can soon translate into your everyday life. In a Body Control Pilates® class, you are taught the principles of good movement skills, gradually layering on more complex and challenging movements. This makes the Body Control Pilates® method a very safe and progressive approach to Pilates.

Pilates has been taught for over eighty years, but it is only recently that the medical profession has started to realize why this system is so successful. Physiotherapists, Doctors, Osteopaths and Chiropractors now recognize Pilates as one of the safest and most effective forms of exercise. Pilates is therefore often recommended to those seeking rehabilitation from injury, back pain, arthritis and osteoporosis. Some of the benefits of regular Pilates practice:

  • Improved flexibility
  • Increased muscle tone and strength
  • Better posture and body awareness
  • Decreased back pain, shoulder pain and postural-related headaches
  • Increased bone density – particularly important for osteoporosis sufferers
  • Decreased stress levels
  • AND flatter stomachs, firmer buttocks and trimmer thighs!

Why Creattiva Pilates

As the name implies – creating active bodies!

There is nothing worse than going to a Pilates class with lots of people, not being sure if you are doing the exercise correctly and feeling too embarrassed to ask for help, with little personal attention for you and your needs.

At Creattiva Pilates this will never be an issue for you to worry about.  We remove the intimidation of larger classes by keeping all of our classes deliberately small.  We allow a maximum of eight clients to a matwork class giving you exceptional guidance and attention.   Our superb levels of individual attention make it easier for you to master the Pilates method correctly and to start to enjoy the benefits of Pilates fully.   We want our clients to leave our Pilates classes with a better understanding of their own body and a greater insight into how their body moves.  Plus, you can expect these same levels of high service throughout your Pilates progression with Creattiva.  Whether you are a Beginner or an Advanced level client – your class size will not increase above eight.

At Creattiva Pilates, you will not simply go through a repertoire of exercises each week, without knowing why or how it is of benefit to you.  Through the thoughtful transition from one exercise to another, we aim to give you an insight into how and why your body moves as it does.   Together, we will learn how to improve that movement by strengthening your body where it needs it.    We also aim for you to learn how to integrate what you practice in your Pilates class to your everyday life outside of class – be it gardening, driving a car, looking after children and working at a desk.  Pilates can influence every area of your life.

We provide you with an integrated movement class of seventy-five minutes duration.  You will progress at your own pace, within a class tailored to meet your individual needs.  Our fully qualified* instructors will aid and assist you to meet your goals and celebrate your successes.

Come and experience the difference at Creattiva Pilates – less people, longer lessons, more benefit to you!

* All our Pilates instructors are fully qualified with the Body Control Pilates ® Association and the Register of Exercise Professionals.
