Prior to training with the Body Control Pilates® Association (www.bodycontrol.co.uk), my whole career had been office based. Working as a Manager in Human Resources and Recruitment - both internationally and in the City of London - meant I was tied to a desk and computer for large parts of the day.

Then along came two beautiful children in just two years. I suddenly had no time for myself, let alone time for exercising. I became totally engrossed in bringing up my babies and running the home. I didn’t think about myself a great deal, I was exhausted most of the time and didn’t notice my body was changing.

I started to have daily headaches, weekly migraines, stiff shoulders, lower back pain and a nagging pain down my left arm. I ignored the pain until I couldn’t move my arm properly, started to lose sensation in my hand and couldn’t push the pushchair anymore. I finally decided to see a physiotherapist who would fix me!

On my first physio visit, he told me “You have no core strength or stability”. I said “OK”, having no idea what he was talking about. Some weeks later, he handed me a book – ‘The Official Body Control Pilates Manual’ and suggested Pilates might be good for me. I took the book home and started to flick through it that night. I was amazed! The book could have been talking right at me. It explained how poor posture caused by lack of core strength (those words again) could cause problems such as restricted movements, shoulder pain, back pain and headaches.

I identified with it all and signed up for a Pilates course. I went along a little dubious and apprehensive, but the whole method just made sense to me. Soon I was attending twice a week and I could feel myself getting stronger. Exercises I found impossible to start with were gradually getting attainable. I started to feel energized for the first time since the children, I started sleeping well, feeling well. My headaches virtually diminished and migraines are a rarity now. My shoulder got stronger and pain free. And, an added bonus was a flatter stomach, firmer buttocks and a longer, leaner body!

Having seen first hand how Pilates really can, with regular practice, make a huge difference to your body, your wellbeing and quality of life overall, I felt passio nate about passing this knowledge onto others. I decided to train with the world’s leading training provider in the Pilates Method – Body Control®. After thorough and intensive training, I established Creattiva Pilates - hoping to create active bodies for those who seek them!

In addition to my Body Control Pilates Matwork Instructor Certification, I also hold Pilates in Pregnancy Certification and Pilates and Osteoporosis Certification

Enjoy your Pilates journey!

Tyna Kaars-Sijpesteijn

Tyna is a new addition to the Creattiva Pilates team and brings with her a passion for teaching that comes to many after having experienced the benefits of Pilates for herself. Tyna had always enjoyed sport, particularly running and tennis, but as she entered her early 40's (and three children later), her body started to say "enough is enough". Her doctor advised her to give up her sports, which was a huge disappointment. He believed giving up would alleviate her nagging back pain and sciatica. Reluctantly she did, but in 2005 discovered Pilates. As a regular practitioner of Pilates, she started to learn about her posture and alignment and as a result of a strengthened core, she has been able to return to the sports she loves.

She no longer has any problems with back pain or sciatica! She became such a huge fan of Pilates that she trained and qualifed with Body Control Pilates. She looks forward to teaching the work she loves!
